  • By sea

Four shipping companies provide transportation of passangers across the sea: Moby Lines, Toremar, Blu Navy и Corsica Sardina Ferries. They connect port of Piombino with cities of Elba such as Portoferraio (70 min),  Rio Marina and Cavo (45 and 35 min respectively). The majority of passengers use ferries but there are also some hydrofoils/ital. aliscafi, that transport only passangers. On the Island of Elba there is an airport that is situated on the south just 2 km from Marina di Campo. So far there are two companeis that fly there: SkyWork and Silver Air. Companies also fly to the Island of Elba  from some foreign countris. For example, SkyWork conducts flights from Germany. From Italy Silver Air conducts  flights from Milan (Linate airport), Pisa and Florence.

Four shipping companies provide transportation across the sea between the port of Piombino and cities of the Island of Elba: Portoferraio (70 min), Rio Marina and Cavo (45 and 35 min respectively). Shipping companies are Moby Lines, Toremar, Blu Navy and Corsica Sardina Ferries.

Both ferries and hydrofoils/ital. aliscafi conduct transportaions across the sea. Note that hydrofoils can transport only passangers whereas ferris passangers and vehicles. During the high season it is recommended to arrive at the port at least one hour in advance

Moby Lines

Shipping company Moby Lines is one of the biggest shipping company in the Mediterranean that transport passangers and vehicles to Sardinia, Corsica and Island of Elba. To the island of Elba Moby Lines offers a lot of connections that’s why it has the major passanger flow. From the port of Piombino ferries leave to Portoferraio and Cavo. During the day the company conducts around 30 connections.  The average price during the summer season is from 10 to 17 EUROs. The ferries start working at 5 a.m. and finish at 22.00. Toremar

Shipping company Toremar connects Piombino and Island of Elba from  1914. In 2011 it was bought by Moby Lines. Ferries connect the port of Piombino with Portoferraio (1 hour) and Rio Marina (45 min).Hydrofoils connect the port of Piombino with Portoferraio with journey time of 40 min. Only hydrofoils connect the port of Piombino with Cavo (20 min). The price depends on the season and on the final destination. The average cost for a passanger is from 6.27 to 9.18 EUROs.

In June 2016 ferries and hydrofoils from Piombino to Portoferraio leave from 5.30 a.m till 22.30. and from Portoferraio to Piombino from 5.00 a.m. till 21.00.  The interval is from 30 min to 1 hour. You can check the timetable and book the tickets on the offical website of Toremar.

There are less connections from Piombino to Rio Marin and Cavo. Timetable for June 2016 from Piombino to Rio Marin and Cavo is listed below:

Blu Navy

Shipping company Blu Navy connects Piombino with Elba from 2010 every day. The company offers considerably lower amount of connections than Toremar and Moby Lines. Ferries go between port of Piombino and port of Portoferraio. On June 2016 one way ticket costs around 10.58 EURO, two way tickets – 19.24 EURO.

Corsica Sardina Ferries

The shipping company is founded in 1968 and initially ferries transfer passangers from French islands to Italy and France and from Sardinia to the Italian continent. From 2012 the company starts transfer passangers also to and from Elba.

The company offers such connection only from June to September. The company use high speed ferries named HSC Corsica Express Three that connect the port of Piombino with Portoferraio in only 30 minutes. During the day there are 7 connections. Ticket price depends on the tariff.  Average price in June 2016 was around 54 EURO.

Timetable from Piombino to Portoferraio is following (summer 2016): 07.15 (only Saturday) 09.35, 12.00, 14.15, 17.15, 19.15, 21.00 (only Friday and Saturday).

Timetable from Portoferraio to Piombino is following (summer 2016): 08.45 (there is no ferry on Monday), 10.45, 13.15, 15.45, 18.15, 20.15 (only Friday, Saturday and Sunday), 22.00 (only Friday).

* Note: During the summer ferries of Corsica-Sardinia Ferries go from Portoferraio to Bastia, Corsica. Average journey time is 1 hour and 30 min.  The connection is offered two times a week. From Portoferraio ferries leave at 20.00 on Wednesday and Thursday. From Bestia at 7 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Naples – Island of Capri: how to reach

The most popular way to get to the Island of Capri is by ferries from Naples. In Naples ferries leave from two ports: Molo Beverello and Calata di Massa. How to get to these port in Naples you can read here. In Capri there is only one port.

From Naples port Molo Beverello leave hydrofoils/итал. Aliscafо that transport only passangers. From other Naples port Calata di Massa leave ferries/итал.traghetto and ferries TMV (that is high speed ferries). Ferries transport not only passangers but also vehicles.

Please note that prices and timetable change often. During the high season, it is better to book the tickets beforehand. In case of bad weather, it is recommended to call the shipping company, you want to use, in order to varify the timetable. Please note that hydrofoils don’t operate when the weather is bad.

Shipping companies Caremar, SNAV, NLG provide passangers transport between Naples and the Island of Capri.

Shipping company  Caremar provides connections between Naples and Capri every day by means of ferries and high speed ferries TMV. Average journey time on normal ferries is one hour and 20 min, on TMV ferries – 1 hour. From and to Naples ferries use the port Calata Porta di Massa

There are two ways to reach Sardinia from Italy (that is from Italian continent): by ferries and by plains.

Ferries are active the whole year. During the summer there are a lot of passengers that is why it is highly recommended to book ferry tickets in advance. The average journey time is 10 hours. Nowadays there are several ferries that reach Sardegna in 6 hours. Most ferries leave late at night. In Sardinia there are several ports where arrive ferries: Cagliari, Porto Torres, OlbiaGolfo d’Aranci and Arbatax.  In the Italian continent ferries leave to Sardinia mainly from Genua, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Naples and Fiumicino.

If you want to take with you animals or additional equipment such as cars, bicycles, motorbikes, it will cost additional amount of money.

The company Roma Marche Linee provides connection Roma – Macerata – Roma every day. From Rome buses leave from the train station Tiburtina. In Macerata buses stop at Autostazione, P.za Pizzarello.

Buses have connections during morning, day and night. Please note that on Sunday buses have a bit different timetable. The average journey time is 4 hours and 30 min. One way tickets Rome – the Macerata cost around 24 EUR, two way  – 41 EUR.

From Rome buses leave at 08:30, 10.00, 1400,16.00, 18.30, 21.05 On Sunday there is no bus at 14.00.

The bus arrives in Macerata at 13.15, 14.00, 19.00, 20.00, 23.05, 01.20 respectively.

From Macerata the bus leaves to Rome at 01.30 at night, 05.00 a.m. 06.15 a.m., 08.30 a.m., 10.45 a.m. and at  16.15.

The bus arrives in Rome at 5.40 a.m., 9.15 a.m., 10.35 a.m., 12.40 a.m., 14.45, 20.15 respectively.

On Sunday the bus from Macerata to Rome doesn’t leave at 08.30. But there is an additional bus that leaves for Rome at 18.00.

  • Rome – Fermo

The company Roma Marche Linee provides daily connection Roma – Fermo – Roma. The average journey time is 4 hours.

In Rome the bus leaves from the train station Tiburtina. In Fermo from Piazza Dante (in front of the church S.Francesco). One way tickets cost around 2o EUR, two way tickets – 34 EUR.

From Rome buses leave every day including holidays from 10 a.m. till 16.

In Fermo buses arrive from 14 till 20.00 respectively.

From Fermo the buses leave at 5.30 a.m., 10,45a.m. and at 16.15. On Saturday the bus doesn’t have connection at 5.30 a.m.

To Rome the bus arrives at 09.15 a.m., 14,45 and  20.15 respectively.

The company Roma Marche Linee offers daily connection Rome Ancona Rome.  Buses from Rome leave from the station Tiburtina. In Ancona on Piazza Rosselli (FS) — from the side of the Hotel. The one way tickets cost 30 EUR and two way tickets – 51 EUR.

From Rome to Ancona buses leave only at 14.00 and arrive in Ancona at 18.30.

From Ancona to Rome buses leave at 01.05 at night, 04.45 a.m, and at 08.00 a.m.. Buses arrive in Rome at 05.40 a.m., 09.15 a.,m and at  13.00 respectively. On Saturday the bus from Ancona to Rome doesn’t leave at 08.00.

There are several bus companies that provide direct connection between Bergamo airport Orio al Serio (often called just Bergamo airport) and the city center of  Milan as well as between the city center of Bergamo and Turin.

  • Buses Terravision

Buses Terravision offers daily direct connections between the train station Milano Centrale  and the Airport of Bergamo Orio al Serio. One way ticket costs 5 euros, two way ticket costs  9 euros. Children until age 4 – free. Average journey time is 60 minutes. The bus stops only once at Cologno Monzese. Passengers are asked to be at the bus stop 15 minutes before the departure.

Buses run every 20-30 minutes.  The first bus from Bergamo airport Orio al Serio leaves at 4:05, the last one at 1:00. The first bus from the train station Milano Centrale leaves at 2:50, the last one at 22.

At the train station Milano Centrale the bus stops on Piazza Luigi di Savoia whilst at the airport  of Bergamo Orio al Serio the bus stops under the bus stop roof number 1.

At Bergamo airport Orio al Serio the bus stops in the terminal of arrivals on the bus stop of Orio Shuttle. The average  travelling time is  3 hours.

Air Bus

The tickets can be bought on board without any additional charges as well as in all authorized tickets selling points and automatic ticket vending machine in the Milan metro.   • From Milano Centrale (the bus stops on Piazza Luigi di Savoia): the bus leaves at 6:00, 6:15, then every 30 min till  20:15. After 21:00  buses leave every 30 min till 23:00.
  • From Linate Airport (the bus stops near Arrival zone 6): buses operate from 6:30 a.m. with 30 min time interval till  23:30.

Buses Autostradale provide daily connection Lenate Airport – Milan train station Lambrate – Milan train Station Milano Centrale.

Buses leave every 30 min. Buses  operate from 05.30 a.m. till  22.00. You can buy tickets on board. It is also possible to buy tickets online on the official website of Autostradale. One way ticket costs 5 EUROS, two way ticket costs 9 EUROS, for children from 2 till 12 – 3,EUROS. The journey time is 25 min.

Cinque terre: how to get there

The Cinque terre is a national park  in the Liguria region of Italy that consists of 5 small villagies: Riomaggiore,  Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. There is also a small town named Portovenere that is also worth of being visited.

It is very easy to get to Cinque Terre on train: 3 hours from Milan, 3 hours and 30 minutes from Turin and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Florence. The journey to the Cinque Terre starts from the city La Spezia.

The most convenient way to visit all 5 villagies is by train. For that in la Spezia you need to take the regional train. It crosses the Cinque Terre in only 30 minutes. The distance between single villagies is the following:
Riomaggiore – Manarola: 2 minutes
Manarola – Corniglia: 3 minutes
Corniglia – Vernazza: 4 minutes
Vernazza – Monterossa: 3 minutes

Please note that not all trains stop in every town. Don’t forget to use train ticket validation-punching machines that you can find on every platform. You can check the timetable on the website of Trenitalia or ask for the timetable in the tourist information centres that you can find in every train station of the 5 villagies. Trains run every 30 minutes. One way ticket costs 4 EUR.
There is also a travel ticket for 16 EUR and for 10 EUR *(2016) for children under 12 for one day. This travel ticket allows you to travel on trains between Levanto and La Spezia (that is between all five villagies) as many time as you want. It also allows you to enter some pathways (such as Sentiero Azzurro, that connects Riomaggiore and Monterossa) and some museums without additional charges. In addition, there is a travel ticket for 2 days for 29 EUR *(2016). You can buy travel tickets on every train station of Cinque Terre and in the tourist information centers.
  •  on foot

Beside trains, it is also possible to move in Cinque Terre on foot using the pathways where you can enjoy the magnificent panorama.

You also can travel across Cinque Terre by boats that transport tourists from one village to another when the weather is good.

There are 2 itineraries:

corso giornaliera, that is daily line, when the boat leaves at 9.15 – 10.00 – 11.15 – 12.10. This itinerary offers stops in Portovenero, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Monterossa.

corso pomeridiana, that is after lunch line, when the boat leaves at 14.05. This itinerary offers an hour stop in Vernazza or in Monterossa and then the boat comes back to Portovenero or La Spezia.
The cost of the tickets depends on the itinerary chosen and on how many stops you want to make.

It is also possible to go from La Spezia to Portovenero in only 30 minutes.

There are several buses that connect Ravenna with other Italian cities.

  • Fiumicino airport – Rome — Ravenna

Buses of the Sulga company provides the connection between Fiumicino airport, Rome and Ravenna every day. At the airport buses leave from Terminal 3, zone of international arrivals whilst in Rome the bus stops near the Tiburtina train station. 

In Rovenna buses leave from Piazzale Aldo Moro, that is situated not far from the train station of Ravenna near the Candiano Channel .

The average journey time is 7 hours. The price depends on where you take a bus. If you take a bus from Tiburtina to Ravenna the price will be € 27,50 for one way ticket and € 45 for two ways ticket.  From Fiumicino airport to Ravenna the price will be  € 32,50  for one way ticket and €  55 for two ways ticket.

The bus company Autostradale connects Milan and Ravenna only during the summer that is from 02 /07 till 04/09/20 16.  The buses leave only on Saturday and Sunday. The price of the ticket depends on the final destination. The average journey time is 6 hours. In Milan to Ravenna buses leave from the bus terminal Lampugnano, that is situated near the same named metro station. In Ravenna, in its turn, buses stop in the area Lidi Sud, that is situated 9 km from Ravenna city, on the beaches of Marina di Ravenna, Lido Adriano and Punta Marina

The bus company Flixbus  offers line 423 Turin-Ravenna-Turin every day. The bus leaves from Turin to Ravenna 2 times per day: at  07:35 and at  16:00. From Ravenna to Turin the bus leaves at 6.30 and at  16.20. The average journey time is 7 hours 35 minutes. In Ravenna buses stop near Pala De Andrè, on the Trieste street 180. In Turin buses stop on Vittorio Emanuele street.

  • Forli  – Ravenna

The company Start Romagna offers the line 156  Ravenna – Forli every day. In Ravenna buses  stop on Piazzale Aldo Moro, that is situated close to the train station of Ravenna on Carducci street and on Caduti square. In Forli buses stop near the train station of the city.

Mirabilandia is an Italian amusement park, situated in Savio, Ravenna. It is very easy to reach thanks to the numerous connections provided by trains and buses.

  • By train

To begin with, if you want to reach Mirabilandia by train, the nearest train station is Lido di Savio/Lido di Classe. In case you consult the Italian railways, don’t forget to enter Lido di Classe, it is  the station you need.  From that station leave special shuttles that bring you directly to the amusement park.

How to get to the Amalfi coast from Rome: bus connections

It is possible to reach the Amalfi coast from Rome by bus or by train.

  • By bus

The Marozzi Bus Journeys company carries out the ride from Rome to Amalfi.

The departure from Rome is at the bus station of Tiburtina Railway Station. Tickets can be purchased at the bus station Tiburtina. The cost is € 21,50 each way and € 37,50 for round-trip ticket. The journey time is approximately 5 hours.

The departure from Rome Tiburtina station is at 07:00 am, stops in: Pompei (How to reach Pompeii), Herculaneum (How to reach Herculaneum), Castellammare di Stabia, Vico Equense, Sorrento, Positano, Praiano and Amalfi.

The departure from Amalfi is at 15:25 and arrives in Roma Tiburtina station at 21:00.

From there you should take a train Circumvesuviana, direction Sorrento. Then in Sorrento you should take the bus of the company Sita Sud. The departure is from Piazza Giovanni Battista De Curtis, near the station of Circumvesuviana of Sorrento. The ride lasts about an hour and a half and the cost of the ticket is of  €6.80.

  • Trenitalia

The first train to Napoli Centrale leaves from Roma Termini at 05.36, the last one at  22.40. The first train to Roma Termini leaves Napoli Centrale at 04.04, the  last one at  22.50.
