Pompeii

Pompeii, is one of the Campania’s towns where ancient and modern, sacred and profane blend, giving rise to places of undeniable charm and splendor.

It is no coincidence that many tourists who go to Pompei every year to admire it remain enchanted by the richness of its monuments, a testimony to a story that continues to tell each day.

However, if you have a short time or just passing through you can also visit Pompeii, just wake up early, wear a pair of comfortable shoes, get some water and here you are ready for this fantastic trip!

What to see in Pompeii

Once you get to Pompeii, you are just spoiled for choice on what to visit. Undoubtedly the must see places to see are:

  • The excavations of Pompeii
  • The sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii (il santuario della Beata Vergine di Pompei)
  • The Villa of Mysteries (la Villa dei Misteri)

The excavations of Pompeii

Scavi PompeiThe first compulsory stage of this trip is undoubtedly the archaeological excavations of Pompeii, a testimony to the city’s past.

Founded in the 8th century BC From the Osci, an ancient Italian-born population, Pompeii was an important trading center known for the production of wines and oils, and was therefore occupied by Greeks, Etruscans and Sannites.

It was thanks to the advent of the Romans, in the III sec. B.C. That it had a strong architectural development and the city was romanized to such a degree that it became the residence of “Roman patriziate.

Unfortunately, the growth and development of the city were arrested because of a serious event that occurred in 79 AD. Which caused its destruction: the eruption of Vesuvius.

The eruption was so powerful that the nearby centers of Herculaneum, Stabia and Oplonti were also hit. Within a few hours the city was buried first by a layer of ash and lapilli and then covered with a lava flow, almost no one was saved.

A tragedy, however, has allowed the ancient monuments to stay over the years and reach almost intact to us so we can admire them in all their splendor.

You can admire:

  • The Forum and the Temple of Apollo: the hole was the old center of the city, economic, religious and political center in the center of which is the oldest monument of Pompeii: the Temple of Apollo.
  • The Amphitheater: where the fights were held between the gladiators.
  • The Lupanare of Pompeii: real homes of pleasure, where are kept the squares depicting the various “services” that were offered.

The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary

Santuario della Beata Vergine del Rosario di PompeiPompeii however, Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeinon is only a story, but also an important religious center since the Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary rises there, where thousands of devotees gather each day in prayer.

The sanctuary was founded by Bartolo Longo and built between 1876 and 1891.

The basilica features a Latin cross plant with three aisles associated with three altars that join behind the apse. The central nave is surmounted by a 57 meter high dome decorated with frescoes depicting the life of Bartolo Longo.

The Villa of Mysteries

Villa dei MisteriVilla dei Misteri is one of the most visited places in Pompeii. It is an ancient Roman house located outside the city. We do not know exactly where the house belongs, certainly to a rich Roman patrician. Many believe that the Villa was by Livia, the wife of the Emperor Augustus, whose statue was found among the ruins.

But his name is mainly related to the series of paintings discovered in a room of the dwelling, and of which the meaning is still understood today. It is increasingly accepted that the scenes represent the initiation of a young woman or a Dionysian cult or marriage. Whatever the explanation you may not be fascinated by these images that enchant anyone to stop looking at them.

In short, a city that never ceases to astonish, and who succeeds in conquering anyone who goes to visit it, giving each and every time new emotions that will remain indelible.

Costiera Amalfitana

Amalfi Coast

Pearl of the Coast of the Coast, natural paradise, we speak of the Amalfi Coast, a place characterized by uncontaminated nature and clear and crystal clear waters that have earned it the title of Unesco’s “Heritage of Humanity” in 1997.

Anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast has the feeling of being on a half-sunken balcony on the blue cobalt waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the clear blue sky.

The Amalfi Coast is also called Divine since it can bring you to a higher, almost unreal dimension, from which you would not wake up.

The land with its many fragrances and flavors is known to all for its beautiful beaches, and for the wild nature, all arranged vertically, including the picturesque houses that overlook the sea and are sometimes hidden in the tangle of suggestive narrow streets .

The Amalfi Coast stretches for about 11,321 hectares between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno and includes 13 communes: Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Vietri sul Mare.

The land offers, to anyone who wants to visit it, various attractions that aim to satisfy the needs of the visitor by choosing between various available alternatives.

What to see on the Amalfi Coast

For those who love trekking and outdoor activities or for those who simply want to stay in close contact with nature, you can not do without hiking on the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods), from which you can admire all the beauty Of the coast.

Sentiero degli dei

Sentiero degli dei

It is a naturalistic trail on the Lattari Mountains, which winds along the entire coastline for 7 km. The most interesting section of the trail is the one between Positano and Nocelle where the landscape is fascinated by the alternation of pine forests, caves to explore and especially suggestive views of the Amalfi Coast.

Do you want to admire the splendor of nature by the sea?

A boat ride is what makes your case so you can admire the most beautiful corners of the entire coast and visit some of the most renowned cities on the coast, among them Amalfi.

Capri and its Faraglioni

When they ask me, “What do you want to see in Capri?“, The first thing I answer is: the Faraglioni!

These are three majestic rocks that emerge from the sea, representing the island’s symbol and make it a truly enchanting place.

Numerous tourists come from all over the world to Capri to dive in its clear waters and the colors accessed, but especially to admire the famous Faraglioni closely.

Without any doubt, if you want to admire these wonderful three rocks, you’ll have to take it off the sea, starting with a boat ride.

The boat passes, in fact, under the arch of the Faraglione in the middle and if you are in sweet company you will have to exchange a kiss: say you bring luck!

If you want to have a nice swim at the foothills of the Faraglioni you can choose between the two bathing establishments that are just opposite: La Fontelina and Da Luigi.

The height of the Faraglioni of Capri is around 100 meters. The first stack that is joined to the coast is called Saetta and is the tallest (about 109 meters), the middle stack that is famous for its central cavity is called Stella (Star), while the third is called Scopolo and is a small natural habitat of the well-known blue lizard.

Perhaps you do not know that there is a fourth faraglione that is not far from the first and it takes the name of Monacone, since in the past it was possible to see specimens of mediterranean seal.

Your boat ride can not end without seeing the enchanting Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), but be careful: to get in there you will have to lie down, due to the small size of the cave.

Once you enter, you will see only darkness at first, but you will suddenly see an explosion of blue and transparent reflections while the eclipse of Neapolitan songs resounds between the stone walls.

Capri, however, will also catch you for the beauty of its center, represented by the characteristic Piazzetta, defined as its small size and center of the town movida, where you can sip a refreshing drink and find yourself as a table near a character in the world of entertainment .

Experience a unique and magical experience in the enchanting Capri where you will feel like touching the sky with your finger!

The ferry from Salerno to Capri (both ways) connects Italy mainland around the Gulf of Napoli to the island of Capri.

The small difference in the journey duration of fifteen minutes (15) is mainly due the type of ferries and companies choices but the comfort and safety are similar.
